DETROIT -- General Motors has unveiled its two-year product plan. What follows is taken from GM’s model-by-model plan for the 2010-12 model years. It was compiled from GM’s presentation 08/12/09 and from company, supplier and industry sources. Buick’s game plan: more style and vehicles ... GM will rebuild the lineup with a new crossover and two sedans smaller than the 2010 LaCrosse. • Regal: Buick is bringing back a familiar name as a 2011 model. The Regal is expected to be priced several thousand dollars less than the all-new LaCrosse. The Regal and 2010 LaCrosse are both based on GM’s new global mid-sized, fwd vehicle platform, but the Regal is 6.9 inches shorter than the 196.9-inch LaCrosse, and will be only offered with high-tech four-cylinder engines. GM expects Regal to become the brand’s top seller. • Small sedan: Buick will market a compact car built on GM’s global compact front-drive Delta platform, which will be shared with other GM models and probably be first sold overseas. The U.S. version is expected to be built in North America and introduced as an early 2012 model. • LaCrosse: The LaCrosse was developed on GM’s new global mid-sized fwd vehicle platform. GM sees this car as a key to Buick’s renaissance. All early reviews indicate that this, a truly global effort involving design and engineering on three continents, will be a breakout success. • Small crossover: GM will offer Buick a small crossover -- a "baby Enclave" -- developed on its next-generation global Gamma platform. The crossover is expected to appear in the 2012 model year. • Enclave: GM plans to freshen the Enclave for the 2012 model year. Here are GMC’s plans for the 2010-12 model years .. • Terrain: GMC adds a compact fwd/awd crossover for the 2010 model year. Ride quality as well as exterior and interior styling distinguish the Terrain from the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, its sister vehicle. The crossovers were developed on GM’s Theta Premium platform. The Terrain has more standard equipment and refinement. GMC will stress the 32 MPG hwy fuel economy of the base Terrain model, which has a 182-hp, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine. • Acadia: The Acadia receives a freshening for the 2012 model year. • Subcompact crossover: GMC is considering a small subcompact fwd crossover. The vehicle would be positioned below the Terrain. • Canyon: A redesign has been penciled in for the 2012 model year. A global compact pickup platform is being developed by GM do Brasil, which could provide a U.S. model. • Sierra: The timing of the next-generation Sierra 1500 pickup has not been determined. The current generation pickups still have many competive advantages and class-leading performance in the fullsize segment. • Savana: No major changes are planned for GM’s full-sized van through the 2012 model year.
